LTPS TFT-LCD(Low Temperature Poly-Si Thin Film
Transistor Liquid Crystal Display) The manufacturing process of
LTPS is much complicated than a-Si TFT-LCD because it employs 7
to 9 masks. However, a-Si TFT-LCD only applies 4 to 5 masks. Thus,
the cost of research and development for LTPS is relatively higher
in comparison with a-Si TFT-LCD. LTPS has higher resolution because
the field effect mobility within the semiconductor increases as
well as reduces the area of transistor. In short, aperture ratio
of LTPS is larger.
The manufacturing process of LTPS TFT is to drive the a-Si film
to Poly-Si film layer, grains of crystalline silicon with no amorphous
phase, through the process of laser anneal by excimer laser. Other
than numbers of masks, this is major difference between LTPS TFT
and a-Si TFT-LCD in the manufacturing process. The process of laser
anneal is represented as follows: |

In
a consequence, it improves the field effect mobility within transistor
to be more than hundred times (~0. 5 to 100 cm2 / V-sec). The attributes
